Whatever our tools may be, there is something incredibly satisfying about food preparation, whether for one or to share with others, as long as it's done with love. I really believe the food prepared with love is more nourishing to those who eat it. I’m checking in a bit late here but, Lou, I love that sexy red food processor! My daughter also has a jumbo five hundred horse-power food-processor that is, I think, capable of sub-orbital flight. I have only just recently added using a wimpy blender (so I can make butternut squash soup) so I am really low tech when it comes to working in the kitchen. I am the cook, but I have have always worked with knives (I have lots of good knives) and cutting boards and spoons other such non-powered devices. That is an awesome looking gadget. Having read this through, I think I can relate. I think that the ubiquitous "everyone" of which you speak is just a projection of doubt. A means by which you can measure the right options. If the explanation you give for actions passes that then, it's all good. At least that's what I do. It's along the lines of the woodwork thing, "measure twice, cut once". It's a good quality to have. It lets you own your decisions, good and bad. It has a tendency sometimes to hamper proceedings if incorrectly applied though, so use it wisely. Try not to demand so much of yourself or feel that something that you love requires explanation (except for say, heroin. If you love heroin.) You're a good person, with a good heart and a fantastic brain. They'll get you far. They've already served you well thus far. Now go. Process some food. And enjoy the weekend. I find comfort, myself, in cooking and preparing meals. I don't hurry along to whip something up just to fill our stomachs. The entire process of cooking and preparing is something that I enjoy, along with making sure I'm using the most nutritious ingredients for our lifestyle. Each one of us makes the proper choices for ourselves in this life. The choices I make, however, will not be the choices someone else makes for their life. Take for instance your food processor - you chose the make and model and brand that suits your needs and desires, yes? And I chose an entirely different brand, this past summer, that made me the happiest. I'm not going to tell you you're choice was bad. Nor am I going to think that perhaps my choice was incorrect.
