edit the preachy January 23, 2009

Mmm. Peppermint tea fresh out of a new box is lovely isn’t it? It was too late for tea, too late for juice. Speaking of Juice, my friend has a new juicer into which we put, 5 apples, 2 pears, 4 sticks of celery, 2 oranges, 2 limes, 1 cucumber. Delicious. I shall be bouncing off the walls of the library tomorrow morning.
Something I noticed today. A woman came in who was irritating and rude. I dwelt on it for a little while after she left. Another woman came in who I get on very well with. I thought about telling her about the rude woman, frankly, I wanted to get it off my chest and have a bit of a bitch about it. Then I thought, what’s the point, why draw this stupid negative event into another persons perception of the day. So I didn’t and it was the right thing to do. I’m glad I thought before I spoke and didn’t just lash into it because I felt like it. Why bathe in the remembrance of something so daft, why add to someone else’s collection of ‘people are shit’ stories. It’s not always possible to do this of course and often, getting something off your chest is a good idea, but, sometimes it’s better to interupt the chain of unpleasantness, if you can
I’m too tired to edit the preachy out of that, sorry…

cute January 22, 2009

I just watched Wall E for the first time – it is criminally cute, a really wonderful film. I can’t praise it highly enough and I don’t want to say much about it because if you haven’t seen it, just make sure you do!
Deeply dark, wet, puddly damp-freezing day today. Not depressingly so, I like my rain to be so total and gloomy that it’s not possible but to feel cozy indoors.
I went to the main lib today to see Niall Williams, our writer in res give a talk on contemporary authors, excellent use of an hour, I love useful, stimulating information about books. I picked up one of his own books in my place afterwards. Funnily enough, it passed through my hands a month or two ago and the name resonated with that of a striking customer and a conversation I had with him about a gentleman who shared his name along with that of the book itself. Too late to explain further.
Modem issues still not resolved, soon, soon.
Take care all. The evenings are brighter, there is no doubt, we’re on our way, hard as it might be to imagine it if you’re still adrift with snow or rain or clouds…

Five minutes, at least, of waiting for the dashboard to load. My modem/router is dying. I don’t want to ring the 9 million a second Indian support line. I probably have to buy a new one for somewhere in the region of 60 – 70 Euro. I can’t quite bring myself to do this. As such I am repelled from trying to use the laptop. Okay, I could use the PC in the AV room, but, it’s Christmasboxified and cold.
Soon, soon.
All is well here otherwise. Battlestar is back so we had a happy evening. The inauguration was something else, I got swept up in the feeling, I’m unashamed to admit. Long may the feeling that seemed so abundant today last.

Super cool storm going on in Ireland today. Walking back from the pub tonight we were treated to a beautiful lightning display and the weirdest thunder, Benny said something about the water (sea) amplifying it in some weird way. Tingly mind-fizzingly good anyway
Better go before it blows up my laptop

Why does someone always come in when I pour a cup of coffee?

I forgot to mention that yesterday was the two year anniversary of this blog, well, I flat forgot all about it.
So now, two years later. Yup, I really wouldn’t have guessed what was coming two years ago, although I was always looking for a job like the one I have now, I wasn’t really going to settle until I got it either. I do still think fondly of my old AV room. And other things.
I was thinking about that idea of ‘if you had told me when I was working in Dublin that I’d end up the librarian in a wee town in Sligo’ during the week. I often think about the bizarrness of it all when I’m standing at the door of the Courthouse building (which is on a hill), looking out over the main street of the town. It’s a good vantage point for watching the town going about it’s business.
Today went well by the way, for those who read the other blog last night. I haven’t been updated since, but will let yee know when I know etc.
Anyway, time for pretty pictures etc…
The first is a video made on Sunday near Creevy Pier, the second is one made at Easkey on Monday evening and the last is me waffling about my bean and sausage casserole (veggie).
Drat. After half an hour the first one still hasn’t loaded and I have to go to bed, will try again tomorrow. Youtube, so useful, so irritating.
