Day 1 January 14, 2007

Probably a rookie mistake but I spent all of this fine lazy Sunday writing the ‘about’ section and have left myself with bugger all time to record anything that’s gone on today. Oh well. There isn’t much interesting to say about a lazy Sunday in front of the computer when it comes down to it. Writing the ‘about’ section was genuinely the highlight of my day, annoying Darren with my dictaphone recordings of the various sounds of St. Petersburg that me and Benny deemed worthy of taking home with us was fun too. I was prompted to route through it to find the recording of the metro man warning that the doors were closing. Doesn’t sound like much, I know, but I’m on a super nostalgia buzz after watching Daywatch last night. After the initial irritation of finding that the copy we had brought back from spb didn’t work in the downstairs DVD player and having brought down the crappy one from upstairs which shockingly didn’t have a problem with the region settings, we settled down to enjoy only to discover it didn’t have English subtitles for me. It actually didn’t matter a jot, where the plot got particularly fiddley or I couldn’t read the body language Benny translated for me and I actually came out the other side of it thinking it’s one of the best films I’ve seen all year. Praise indeed coming from me, I am really not easily impressed when it comes to films. Well, when it comes to most things, but that’s another story.
The most irritating aspect of today is that I didn’t get around to updating my C.V. to send to the recruitment agencies in Sligo or to post onto Monster. Silly girl. I have the sauce made for tomorrows dinner so I guess it shall have to go onto the list for tomorrow.
I can’t get too annoyed with myself for that though. I feel it’s been a productive day, having gotten this thing up and running and resting up to sort out my neck (pulled a muscle in it last weekend and it just wont settle down for love nor money). As I end the day, coffee in hand, candles winking and fluttering, cats snoozing and twitching, waiting for Benny to get back from his Dad’s after their differed Christmas dinner, I have a rather pleasant sense of calm about me. Although I have a day’s listening to the Battlestar Gallactica soundtrack’s to thank for that as well (highly recommended, whether your a fan of the programme or not, beautiful stuff, particularly ’something dark is coming’ which is on as I type this). A very pleasant end to a very pleasant day. Nighty-night all.
